As a sculptor I use wood and the woods around me as a source of inspiration. Chiseling and sawing I ask the sculpture to reveal itself. In the process of taking away, I find. During the first years of my artistic journey when I trained in the classical European tradition, the process was reversed: I always knew what I was looking for. Now I let the material itself guide me by not only using my many carving tools but using fire as well. Fire works the wood like wind and water and all the elements are present and participating in the creative process. Although wood can be worked to a smooth marble-like surface, I often prefer to leave it raw, giving the skin a lively multifaceted and colorful appearance.

Over the last ten years my sculptures have become less studio bound. Now they are often installations within the landscape and relate to and are part of their surroundings.
