Another Magical Event during Delia Robinson’s exhibition, “Magical Thinking.”

Friday, May 19 | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Following a time-honored tradition that third generation whistle maker, Delia Robinson, learned from her mother, a renowned whistle maker, each piece is built from a hand-formed pinch pot ocarina with two or more notes. Delia will guide you in creating your red ware clay whistle. Post firing finishes will be discussed. Your whistle will be fired in Delia’s kiln and returned to HCA for your pick-up.

Clay whistles are an ancient craft. Many cultures still include them among their folk instruments. Whether for music, magic, signaling, or play, their functional uses have almost entirely vanished, though they continue to charm.

“Delia Robinson is a folk artist par excellence. Her art, rooted in tradition, creativity and innovation, is shaped by the narrative impulse…”

Jane Beck, Vermont State Folklorist Emeritus
