Event Details

Back Roads Readings was created to bring esteemed poets and writers, both local and regional, to read their work to people in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Readings are followed by a book signing and reception, and are held in HCA’s event tent or theater, weather dependent.

Edward Hirsch has published ten books of poems, including Gabriel: A Poem, a book-length elegy for his son, and, most recently, Stranger by Night, and six books of prose about poetry, including 100 Poems to Break Your Heart, The Heart of American Poetry, and the national bestseller, How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love with Poetry. His numerous awards include a MacArthur Fellowship, the Rome Prize, and an Academy of Arts and Letters Award.  He is president of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and lives in Brooklyn.
