Written with rare honesty, affection and grace – and with language so precise and descriptive you will know immediately you’re soul-deep in something extraordinary. -Los Angeles Daily News

The words of celebrated Vermont poet David Budbill come alive on the Main Stage in a concert featuring musicians and composers from Vermont and New York, weaving Budbill’s iconic poetry in a sonically diverse program. Vermont’s Scrag Mountain Music co-Artistic Directors Mary Bonhag, soprano, and Evan Premo, composer and double bass, team up with Capital City Concerts Artistic Director Karen Kevra on flute to present works by Erik Nielsen and Premo with pianist Jeffrey Chappell. From New York, David’s long-time collaborator and avant-garde jazz artist William Parker leads a group of vocalists in an incantation of poetry and improvised music.

David Budbill’s poetry speaks out about the injustices in the world while at the same time praises the beauty of nature till it sings out. In the music we try to meet his words and walk together in beauty.  – William Parker, Composer
