A Bug's World: Larger than Life

Step into the world of insects as you meander through A Bug’s World, the Highland Center for the Arts’ latest outdoor art installation. Did you know a praying mantis tracks prey in 3D? Learn fun facts about the life of bugs through interpretive signs and sculpture as you get lost in an other-worldly display that is much, much larger than life.

Sidle past a 14-foot ant, its antennae attuned to its path. Far afield, a giant amanita toadstool, capped in red with white spots, beckons playfully. A white-gloved 12-legged caterpillar chortles against a tree, laughing at something only it can see. Atop a hill, banners honor webs and bug patterns in macro, and ladybugs, larger than a dinner plate, makes its way down a tree.  A purple and lavender butterfly tipped with five delicate white spots on each wing perches in the grass, a reminder that all our lives are beautifully, and delicately, entwined here on this planet Earth.

Come prepared for walking along moderate terrain to enjoy this captivating display, as summer turns to fall amid the rolling hills of our magnificent Northeast Kingdom setting.
