Above is a Common Merganser (male) photographed in April of this year along the Lamoille River in Morristown. 
A female C. Merganser – same location but a different light angle, bringing out the blue reflected from the sky to the water. 
And a more classic Vermont Loon image, captured at Zack Woods Pond in Hyde Park VT where I help with the Loon Conservation Program – putting out the floating signs to warn boaters of nest “social distancing”
